Please understand that by quoting from this book, I am in no way inferring a relationship between Oasis LifeSciences and the authors. This is simply a very plainly stated quote that embodies exactly how I feel on the subject of ones health or the lack of it. I feel compelled to share it with you. The quote comes from the book "Body for Life, 12 Weeks to Mental and Physical Strength" by Bill Phillips and Michael D'Orso, published by Harper Collins, page 2.
"You simply cannot escape this reality: Your body is the epicenter of your universe. You go nowhere without it. It is truly the temple of your mind and your soul. If it is sagging, softening, and aging rapidly, other aspects of your life will soon follow suit.
I just don't believe that anyone in this world sets out on a journey to become fat and unhealthy, just as no one decides to become lonely or poor. What happens is, somewhere along the line, slowly and gradually, without even being aware of it, we give up. We give up our values and our dreams one at a time. When people let go of their bodies, it is, quite simply, the beginning of the end." By the way, the lady that gave me this book after our YMCA workout, is definately a Maven.
I'm still thankful for that one glance in the mirror that shocked me into action.

Oasis Customer Life Time Guaranty

Oasis LifeSciences has taken their belief in their product to a new level. While reading this, I'm trying to relate his ideas to building a network marketing business and I've come up with some ideas I am going to implement. I'm fortunate to be affiliated with a company that has a compelling story and several intriguing products that have good consumer appeal, making them easier to talk about. In chapter 2, "The Law of the Few: Connectors, Mavens, and Salesmen", page 69, Gladwell says, "The one thing that a Maven is not is a persuader....Mavens are really information brokers, sharing and trading what they know." I started thinking of who I know that cannot help sharing information about a product, movie or business they were pleased with. For me, several of these people came to mind readily. Now to put it in their hands.

Oasis Advocate for Healthier Living

If you were to wonder if there is a need for your Oasis products and services, a quick look at any news source finds there is constantly something in there about rising numbers of different diseases, stories of gastric bypasses and Americans eating more empty calories. I was by myself at lunch today reading The Metabolic Plan, when behind me a group of ladies started talking about how tired they were lately. One commented it must be the holiday stress and another said she thought it was her horrible eating habits and soda. Those of you who have followed my blog know the latter really got my attention. I wanted to turn around and get in the conversation. Knowing better, I waited as they left to see who it was. (I'm from a small community, 12,500) It turns out I knew two of them. Hold that thought. I then stopped by my wife's work place and took The Metabolic Plan in with me, so I could read a paragraph to her regarding DHEA. Somehow the conversation turned to joint pain and glucosamine. Jacki's coworker said her Orthopedic doctor uses glucosamine regularly and recommends his patients do the same. I know the doctor. Here's where the rubber meets the road. It is incumbent upon me to share the information I have.

Oasis Lifesciences Team Calls

I have learned, while building a network marketing business online and over the phone may sound glamorous, it really requires a lot of work. I remember thinking, wow building a business without those silly rah, rah type gatherings will be great. What I left out of the equation is this. While some companies may have gone over board with the enthusiasm, a certain amount of camaraderie is nice, if not necessary. We are learning with our organization that a mix of teaching from the book and practical experience is what most people want. If you are in an area where your company doesn't have regular meetings, using the conference call circuit is the next best thing. Through his leadership Avon grew from $700 million dollars to become the largest direct sales company in the world. In addition, their CEO was the President/CEO of Nature’s Way as well as the former Sr. V.P. of McKesson Drug Company. Additionally, Marshall Douglas, Vice Chairman of their Field Leadership Council, has extensive experience in the network marketing industry and is one of Oasis LifeSciences highest bonus check recipients. The Passport team will be working directly with Marshall.
Oasis LifeSciences was founded by Bill Lee. His holdings include AloeCorp--the world’s largest producer of raw aloe. In fact, AloeCorp aloe is used in thousands of pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and functional foods products, from Gillette to Johnson and Johnson. Among his other holdings Mr. Lee owns Unigen Pharmaceuticals. His companies have more combined research space, more scientists, more published studies, patents and publications than any other natural products company in the world.
As stated in their literature, "The Oasis LifeSciences is the ‘point of the spear’ - a delivery vehicle for the vast economic network of companies owned by Bill Lee who calls his companies collectively an ECONET, a global resource structure unmatched by any in the neutraceutical industry."
The Oasis Lifesciences opportunity mirrors the initiatives that were currently underway in Passport LLC. For example:
Multiple enrollment options
Cutting-edge Scientifically developed product line
Unilevel pay plan w/lucrative depth bonuses
Product-driven focus
Customer development
Team orientation
Canada launch in February ‘06
Increased compensation to Associates
According to Passport CEO Bo Short:
Oasis LifeSciences allows us access to a company with superior products and resources thus enabling us to take a bold step forward in our evolution as a group of people committed to building a business based on honest, ethical practices. I am proud of our executive leadership and their vision. (CD version item #7202) In it Stephen Cherniske makes a statement that I believe should stay with us daily as we build our businesses. I feel it will help reinforce for us, our mission as we share it with people. He says "...I like to think of the whole thing as moving to desire to discover to deliver. We have it nailed on all three levels and I think you'll find that what we bring to the future will be stunning in it's effectiveness and it's benefit to mankind and it's not going to end any time soon." For those who have toured the Lacey Washington facility and met Stephen, you know that desire and discover are there. The deliver part is two fold. As the company brings products to us that can help people, it is imperative that we share (deliver) them to the consuming public.

RegeniCare from Oasis Lifesciences

RegeniCare is a uniquely different product than others on the market. It contains many of the same nutrients of other products but Oasis goes a couple of steps further with some proprietary ingredients. If you suffer from joint pain or stiffness, it warrants a look. As a user of products that contained both chondroitin and glucoasmine and not having good results, I was a bit skeptical. Having used RegeniCare twice a day for 3 consecutive days, I noticed a remarkable reduction in stiffness in my hands and feet. So much so, I was out of bed this past Friday morning before I realized that I hadn't taken the usual time to exercise the stiffness out of my hands and feet. What I failed to do when buying my tickets was check with Mother Nature. Experiencing ice removal from the plane was a first for me and a little unnerving. However, it was the beginning of what was to be a great 2 days. After landing in Seattle, I was greeted by, Ty Tribble and Bo Short. and we were joined later by Marshall Douglas, a funny man and I believe a true visionary. Marshall Douglas is the person who introduced Bo and the Passport management (Dave Stone and Ty Tribble) to Oasis. The next day we went to the Columbia Tower, 77th floor for a luncheon meeting with Oasis President and Cheif Science Officer Stephen Cherniske. He is without a doubt very passionate about his work with Oasis and the products they make. We heard from several associates about how the gifting program helped them build their businesses and several physicians regarding their opinions of the Oasis products. We then left Seattle for Lacey Washington to see the temporary Oasis headquarters and to tour the labs and meet the people running the company. I must say, I was truly impressed with how approachable company management and successful associates are. With the unilevel plan and generational bonuses, associates have a reason to want their downline to succeed. All said it was 2 days to remember, as I believe these are the type of meetings that bring great things from people.

Is Timing Really That Important?

I was at the YMCA today and when I finished exercising I headed into the locker room where I ran into a friend. We began to talk about our exercise habits and my friend asked about my significant weight loss. During the conversation he asked me if I was using supplements and obviously I said yes, an Oasis Lifesciences product called AgelessXtra, have you heard of it? The answer was no, which didn't surprise me, but what I didn't expect was how easily and naturally we conversed about the product. In the past, with other businesses, when the name of my product or company came up the conversation stopped just about as abruptly as it started. The huge opportunity I see with Oasis Lifesciences is this. The company has not only survived it's first 6 years, but has recently had it's first 5 million dollar month. On our conference call this past Thursday night, Bo Short commented about typical growth patterns of companies that achieve this significant milestone. I'm reminded of what Malcolm Gladwell says in his best selling book "The Tipping Point". On page 11, while talking about the power of epidemics (not necessarily sicknesses as we tend to think of the word in our society) he says "We need to prepare ourselves for the possibility that sometimes big changes follow from small events, and that sometime these changes can happen very quickly." If a company like Oasis is still relatively unheard of, yet has achieved a level of sales reported recently and has the influx of the Passport associates as planned for tomorrow, it begs the question. Is 2006 the year for Oasis Lifesciences? Stay tuned. Better yet, affiliate yourself and come along to see.

Be The Messenger Not The Message

I was watching the movie Hitch this weekend and as good as it was there was a moment where my thoughts strayed. Hitch, played by Will Smith, sent this woman he wanted a date with a delivery by personal messenger. While watching this scene the phrase "don't shoot the messenger" came to mind. I made a mental note to tie that thought to how our business model works and address it later, so here goes. If we can get into our heads the image of "we are the messenger not the message" it can take a tremendous amount of pressure off of us while sharing our products and our business. Look at it this way. In the movie, the messenger really didn't care how the woman responded to the delivery, his job was simply to put the package in her hands. The rest was up to her. We're really no different. Simply get your business (product) in the hands of people and let them decide. YEAH RIGHT DALE! In past businesses we were taught to lead with curiosity. Why not, we all have a natural tendency to fall for that. Notice I said "fall" for that. It often felt deceptive to people once the vail was lifted. Here's my method, I hope it helps you. When asked what I do, I simply say, "I market a product that can help people have more energy, better mental clarity and reduce stress. Who do you know that would like these benefits?" Questions will follow. What do you mean better mental clarity? Sir, that's a good question. (Here's me being the MESSENGER) Because I want you to have complete and accurate information, let me direct you to my website (or this video/DVD, whatever fits) and if you like what you see, I have product samples. Fair enough? Obviously there are many possible variations to this method, so find what works for you and memorize it.

A Call To Action

How many times in our lives do we really receive a call to action. I mean a true call, not the buy now and we'll throw in... I mean one that can help the person who simply wants a healthier life, or a way a person can make a good income marketing a unique product coupled with a low key approach to sharing that idea . Many times a good product comes along and gets lost in a sea of other's just as good or the timing is out of synch with what the buying public is looking for. This is why we should have what Jeffery Combs calls "OSP". Opportunity Seeking Perception. When that call comes we must be receptive to new ideas and new ways of thinking. Often when a call to action arrives, it's a brief picture of what is to come and if we have our OSP antenna down it will simply be picked up by someone who is receptive and ready to run. Keep your head up and be in the game.

Excited versus hype

I have never been a fan of hyping something to get what I want. Whether our belief comes from the logical side of our brain, the science behind the product or the emotional side of our being, the personal testimonials and personal use, it's important that we have belief. I have found in my 20 years in and out of network marketing that this combination, for me, was illusive. I've always had a passion for natural supplements and preventive health care. So much so that I was willing to endure being a distributor for a company back in the 90's that I really didn't like, simply because I wanted their vitamins. Take a giant leap forward. After researching Oasis Lifesciences I have to say I'm impressed. I wonder how I, a very inquisitive person, could miss a company with a product line and a story like this. Artemis has a powerful story about the self limiting and self defeating beliefs and behaviors of her past and how these acts can affect us all. I told her that I have, at different times in my life, been asked to take leadership positions by people that obviously had more confidence in me than I do myself. I asked her how other people could see me as a leader when I didn't feel deserving of it. Her answer, to long to mention here, made sense to the left brain that I must have been listening with but it didn't really sink in. During her final portion of their program, she again touched on the same answer she gave me but I received the message in completely different way. To paraphrase Artemis, "Seldom are we ready to for the positions or challenges that we find ourselves in. The learning is in the doing." I had a nice quiet 6 hour car ride home to ponder why I have always been so uncomfortable with the myself as a leader. The next morning I went for my normal walk and it came to me how basic the message was that Artemis was trying to give me. I thought about a child, at toddler age and all the amazing feats this being must accomplish to become what we all become given time. The child doesn't have the ability to think itself out of trying to walk or talk, it's simply driven to accomplish these tasks. If our ability to rationalize developed before our bodies, it's quite possible that some of us would never learn to walk, talk or feed ourselves because of the fear of being wrong. I now know I must start the journey knowing I will make mistakes but I will also have successes. And it's in the activity (the acting) that we learn to be what we most want.

Captain or victim, the choice is ours.

During a strategy session I was having regarding my business, I had playing in the background, a CD that was a gift from a friend. It was authored by one of his favorite educators, Jim Rohn. The CD, Building Your Network Marketing Business, has some powerful points that I feel we should share with our business partners, children and friends. One point I am referring to is this. Jim Rohn says, "It's not what happens that determines your life future, it's what you do about what happens. All of us are in like a little sailboat and it's not the blowing of the wind that determines your destination, it's the set of the sail. The same wind blows on us all. The economic wind the social wind and the political wind. The winds of disaster and of change. The difference in where you arrive in one year, three years or five years is not the blowing of the wind, but the set of the sail." Whatever it is you are going through, push through it, reflect on it, reset your sail and remember the success.

Simple makes sense

I was recently involved in training regarding prospecting and closing. The presenter wasn't affiliated with any particular MLM company but there was a small amount of chatter about pay plans and I, being somewhat new, hadn't heard of most of them. One thing I noticed was that most were very complicated. I must say after having several explained to me, Passports' Building Blocks plan makes a lot of sense. It's simple and a new person can see the money because it's not buried downline to infinity. How it Works... check it out.

Slacking savers may need your business opportunity.

One of my past career choices was the investment business. I went to school and went to work for Edward Jones Investments of St. Louis, Missouri. Unfortunately I quit my job as transportation director with a Midwest retailer and went to Jones one week before the World Trade Center tragedy on September 11th 2001. Needless to say, I no longer work in the investment business. However I'm still licensed and I keep my finger on the pulse of the investment world. Like most people that venture into that field, I had an area of interest and my passion was helping families realize the need to start saving now. It was very disheartening to find there was a tremendous amount of apathy about preparing for ones future. I have attached a link to a very interesting statement as presented by Benjamin J. Stein, Honorary Chairperson of The National Retirement Planning Coalition to the Committee on Education and the Workforce U.S. House of Representatives. It's a little long but it's awakening reading. NOW, all this for what? Here is where I see opportunity for anyone building their Network Marketing business today. I don't believe in playing on the fear of people, so don't take this the wrong way. As a society we have been told by many sources in many ways to ready ourselves for our retirement days and many have chosen to ignore the advice. I believe, in the near future, when millions of baby boomers begin to face the fact that they are behind in saving, we will have a great opportunity to step in and help them understand that there are alternatives. Help by starting now to build a business that can provide residual income before they need it 5 to 10 years from now. Let's face it. We are a planet of consumers and that's not going to change. Good products, competitively priced that solve problems for the consumer and a fair compensation plan that's easy to understand may just be what many people will need to supplement social security and their ailing investments.

The Missing Ingredients

In a past Network Marketing business, I was involved in a conversation with an individual who said to me, with pride, that he had been in the business for 3 years. I being new, thought that sounded like an accomplishment of sorts, thinking if he had been around that long he must be successful. Little did I know that this person liked to talk about the time he had been involved with the business but he never talked about the amount of time he spent building his business.
How do we avoid becoming like this individual? That's a good question. I understand that endurance is important but by itself does not build a successful business. So how do we measure success before the money starts coming in? Again, a good question.
Here's how I see it.

Spending time without purpose is just enduring.

Endurance by itself is just time spent belonging to something, not building a business.

So what is the missing ingredient? Activity. Constant activity with purpose. Meaning, scheduling time throughout the day to call the people who have shown interest in your business. Be they one's you've talked to personally or following up on opt-in leads. Also, scheduling time to visit with individuals and business owners that could benefit from your products. Constant activity with purpose = paycheck.

What is it about that vision thing?

I was listening to a leadership program today and the host was visiting with another person who is seen as a great educator of people relating to leadership skills and this person said something that once again reminded me of how important it is to keep reminding ourselves and others how important a true vision is to your personal and business success. I recently read and commented on the book The Greatest Networker in the World by John Milton Fogg and how it really drove home to me how this process really works and how effective it is in putting us on track for a successful future. Let's look at it from the personal side first. I have a vision of myself weighing 195 pounds by October 15th of this year. I would accomplish this by taking as much sugar out of my diet as possible and by walking daily. I can't tell you how difficult this was when I attempted it so many times before. I was never successful and I didn't understand why. It came to me while reading Fogg's book that that was exactly how I quit smoking 13 years ago when I was nearly a 3 pack a day smoker. I simply told myself that I was not a smoker and I couldn't possibly be craving a cigarette and I saw myself being successful at it. Crude but it worked. Back to the weight issue. I have taken sugar out of my diet and look forward to my daily walks now because I see the end result in my mind. A very clear picture. I say that I will be (and state the goal) reinforcing my mental picture. By the way, water never tasted so good and I can't remember thinking so clearly. For the business side of my vision, I see the outcome. The route may change as I progress but the destination is the same. I can see it and what it means to me and my family. It is a great future attained by helping others to grow and reach their goals which leads me to where I want to be. I see myself as someone who is totally calm and enjoying calling people who have asked for information about a business like mine. By the way, I'm 3 weeks and 11 pounds closer to my vision of my future self. What is that vision thing? Everything!

Obesity & Future Life Expectancy

One of my concerns and part of my reason for being a Passport LLC associate is the concern for people and their health. I have for years battled with the over use of sugar. As mentioned in an earlier post, it was quite difficult changing my lifestyle by eliminating as much sugar as possible from my daily intake of food. Once I had it licked I started noticing changes in my body quickly. Probably the strangest sounding one is my energy level shot up. I became less lethargic. The added mobility then brought on even more desirable changes. I found an article I wanted to share with you.

After remaining relatively stable in the 1960s and 70s obesity among adults in the US increased by approximately 50% per decade through the 1980s and 1990s. Now two-thirds of the US are overweight or obese. Obesity has been shown to significantly reduce life expectancy by an estimated 5 to 20 years.

The medical treatment of obesity has been largely unsuccessful and death rates from diabetes have risen dramatically. These trends suggest that the relative influence of obesity on the life expectancy of future generations could be significantly worse than it is for current generations.

This review article anticipates that as a result of the substantial rise in obesity and its life-shortening complications such as diabetes, life expectancy could level off or even decline within the next fifty years.

New England Journal of Medicine. While listening to one call it was obvious that the interviewer was talking about himself too much. The prospective business partner finally opened up when he was asked about his current job and what it was that interested him about the ad. When the conversation turned to his interests I could hear a definate change in tone because his speach became more relaxed. Our job is to learn their WHY, through questions. Let them talk without interruption. This may be the first time that they have actually heard their WHY in their words, out loud. This can actually help clearify in their mind why they must move forward. Keep it about them and about their reason(s) and chances are greater a relationship will grow.

"Beware The Naked Man Who Offers You His Shirt" By Harvey Mackay

Harvey Mackay was one of my favorite authors in my early years of furthering my education. I think he's a great educator and the title and content is meaningful today with the transformation taking place in our industry. There are two things I want to bring to you by mentioning his book. I feel, in the Network Marketing business, where so many people have had bad experiences with so many different companies, it's important for your due diligence to gather as much information about a company and it's leadership as possible. I want to direct you to the link on the side bar of Bo Short our CEO. Please take a moment and hear what he has to say about why he started Passport LLC and I believe you will begin to understand just how this fits into my thinking about this. He is a man who does not resemble the book title. Building a business on no hype, competitively priced products and a fair compensation plan. Also in Mackay's book he mentions something that is truly important for the survival of all sales people and companies and that is to "deliver more than you promise". The more I'm involved with this company the prouder I am to tell everyone that I am again building a network marketing business. The attitude of just get them in and the rest will take care of itself (which I heard so many years ago) is so not a part of the atmosphere here. I firmly believe that customer service and educating and assisting those who join you will be the cornerstones of great businesses being started today.

Let them decide...You owe them that much.

While considering what my Passport business was going to look like...You know that vision thing , I was forced to consider if building a network would be part of my plan or would I just stick to retailing. After considering the income potential I decided to include both to give me a stronger business. Now I'm faced with another decision. Do I visit with my friends and relatives about my business? My warm market. Warm market prospecting is what gave me thick skin years ago which prepared me so well to sell real estate. Being the only soul in my family and pretty much the only one in my close circle of friends that owes no allegiance to a time clock, it's always fun explaining to them how it is that I can be self employed and still sleep at night, without a predictable income. As if tomorrow their job couldn't go away like so many others we know about . Anyway, do I visit with family and friends? I decided to put it on the back burner and let it simmer a while and the answer finally came to me. How can I move forward with this type of business, be successful and have a clear conscience if I didn't let them decide if this business is right for them? Easy, I have to consider what's best for both of us. Not tell them and not have them in on the original growth of my business or tell them and risk having some of them drag me down to the point I don't build. If this were 20 years previous I would say tell them. With our ability to connect with good people elsewhere looking for oportunities, I have to say you will be better off bringing your business to them when it's established and your belief system is nearly unshakable. I still have scars from doing it the other way back in 1987.

My experience with Network Marketing

In my quest to build a successful network marketing business and retail business, I thought it important to explain my experience in the business over the years. I had a brief but active stint with Amway back in 1987 working with an honest and hard working farmer in our rural Missouri area. He and his wife were totally committed to building a successful business by helping others do the same. The problem was my view of myself and my lack of belief in my ability to build and lead a successful business like they were building. After nearly a year of struggling with contacting and inviting I left the business. We continued to buy products because we liked what we used but eventually it became a burden on our pocketbook as our two children arrived. Fast forward to the summer of 1999. My family and I drove to Florida to see friends we made 20 years before while with the Army in Germany. While there in Tarpon Springs Florida, I was asked by my friend to look at Quixtar. He was very honest and open about everything and I appreciated that. It was a time in my life when I was doing very well as Manager of Transportation for a Midwest company involved in retail, but I listened anyway. As I listened I became excited about building a web based business. We joined their Quixtar business. That put us in the downline of Bo Short. Doing well at work and also noticing that Quixtar looked way too much like Amway, I lost all motivation to build. As with most things in life, we are brought to experience certain things for a reason, even though it's not always clear at the time. I now understand that Bo and several others in the organization were great teachers and that's what I needed . I have since moved on from the field of transportation and Quixtar into real estate sales. I have come to enjoy the contacting part of sales and have built some lasting relationships and a good living. Hearing that Bo & Sandy had made some changes in their life but not knowing exactly what it was, I let the miracle of the Internet go to work. I read a lot about Bo and filtered through a lot of junk. Having met Bo & Sandy in Florida at a small gathering, my wife and I (both being what we believe to be good judges of character) felt they were sincere people. After looking at the Passport information every once in a while, we decided we would try the products and become associates. We were fortunate to come into the business through Ty Tribble and Dave Stone. I firmly believe that Passport LLC is being built for all the right reasons and it will prove to be the most successful network marketing company, over time, for one reason. It was designed with the business building public in mind. Fair and simple. Also, the free training sessions have good content and management is accessible.

Get on good nutritional suppliments and get off Sugar.

I have, for a long time been concerned about the overuse of sugar and how it affects my health. For years I simply consoled my self by taking a good regiment of a quality vitamins and ignored the number of Pepsi's I drank in a day. Three to five 20 ouncers. I was drinking 6-8 cups of coffee every morning with, what else, a teaspoon of sugar. What amazed me was how dependent I was on the substance. After making a choice to remove as much sugar from my diet as possible, what I call intentional sugar, I found it to be nearly as difficult as stopping smoking was 11 years ago. Ok, I'm down off of my soap box. Now check out two things. Have you ever heard someone say "The more I talked the more trouble I was in"? Well, that doesn't just pertain to getting a speeding ticket. Most people, when they are new to selling believe that selling equals talking. I was most people. Here's what I've learned over the years. Dialogue is the true key to selling. Think about a time in the past when someone made an assumption regarding what you wanted. And they acted upon that assumption even though it was wrong. How did you feel? With that in mind can you see how a prospective business partner might feel if they were to ask a simple question and get a total run down of your business?
